Birds & Men

My works explore principles of stoss, so termed by Heidegger to reflect a type of ‘quake’ or dramatic phenomenological experience induced through an encounter with an original work of art. I have interpreted this notion by exhibiting paintings next to reproduced images in an attempt to ‘re-authenticate’ the original in real time and place. A further parody inadvertently referring to the Virgin Mary as a ‘Bird’, lightly diffuses issues of gender bias within traditional religious contexts.
